There is always something happening at Predjama Castle, especially in summer, when the programme includes Erazem's medieval tournament. Every year this brings together a large number of visitors and performers, who together stage a historical spectacle.
Weddings are events of another type. These are not just normal weddings, but genuine castle weddings for all who wish to make this unforgettable day even more special.
Add spice to your visit with a real medieval banquet, experience what it feels like to be honoured guests of Predjama Castle, and enjoy a selection of food prepared to the original recipes.
Erazem's Medieval Tournament at Predjama is based on records and illustrations from or relating to the 16th century. This period was chosen because Predjama Castle as we see it today was given its current appearance in 1583, when the Renaissance entrance tower was built.
Erazem's Medieval Tournament in Predjama is an event involving several different classes: nobles, peasants and children. Bold archers, swordsmen and horsemen display their skills in the arena – morning and afternoon. The knights’ camp, open all day, gives visitors a chance to see the swordsmen and their equipment and learn about how they lived. The main characters at the event are Erazem of Predjama, the most famous lord of the castle, his friend Andreas Baumkirchner, the military commander who saved Vienna from the Turks, and Bishop Piccolomini (who would later become Pope Pius II), who consecrated the chapel in Predjama.
